Mitel Live Business Gateway

Mitel Live Business Gateway Extends Enterprise Communications

Mitel Live Business Gateway enables enterprises to implement IP-based solutions through a smooth, intelligent evolution. Working in conjunction with Microsoft OCS 2007, a SIP-based presence and collaboration server, the Mitel / Microsoft partnership delivers advanced applications for global communication and collaboration.

Live Business Gateway provides telephony enablement to OCS 2007. As part of the Mitel applications and services gateway family allowing enterprises to implement IP-based solutions through a smooth, intelligent evolution, Live Business Gateway integrates OCS 2007 and Mitel applications to provide access to key business resources in the moment they are needed, resulting in faster decision making and issue resolution.

Telephony Enablement

Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 users can use the call feature to initiate calls from their Mitel desktop phone to any other internal or external telephone number. Incoming calls are flagged to the user via the Communicator 2007 pop-up incoming call window, enabling the user to answer the call via their Mitel desktop phone or to forward the call to another destination or their voice mailbox at the click of a mouse.

Presence and Availability

Communicator 2007 users are able to see an indication of the status of other users on the network, including their telephony status. If a colleague is busy on a call, they can be "tagged," meaning that when the call is completed, a notification is provided to indicate their availability.

Gold Partner Extension of Mitel Applications

The Live Business Gateway extends Mitel's rich telephony applications suite to the OCS 2007 users leveraging presence and availability from the Communicator 2007 interface.

Integration with Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite

Missed calls are flagged in the user's Microsoft Outlook® inbox. A user’s status can be seen within Outlook or the Microsoft Office suite. Calls can be established directly from these applications via a mouse click.

Through the provision of advanced Mitel telephony applications to OCS 2007, the Mitel / Microsoft partnership enables better access to information and people, simply and easily, right from the desktop.

PC-to-Phone

PC-to-Phone is also referred to as direct SIP.

Mitel has successfully completed Microsoft certification testing for direct SIP connectivity between the 3300 ICP and OCS 2007. Mitel is now listed on the Microsoft web site as a certified PBX vendor for direct SIP connection. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/bb735838.aspx#ippbx1.1.

PC-to-Phone session initiation protocol (SIP) integration is supported between OCS 2007 and the 3300 ICP. An end-user can establish calls from a Microsoft Office Communicator client, acting as a basic SIP softphone, to or from a Mitel desk phone, the public switched telephone network (PSTN), or any other network-connected PBX. The term PC-to-Phone encompasses calls between PC to PSTN, phone to PC, and PSTN to PC.

This solution is typically used by mobile employees who do not have a desk phone but instead want to use the embedded SIP softphone capability within the Communicator 2007 client.

From a Microsoft Office Communicator client, a user can dial through the find field, through a contact list, or through the Microsoft Office suite of products as defined by the Microsoft server specifications. All telephony services for the Communicator softphone are provided by OCS 2007.

There is no integration between the Communicator client and a Mitel desk phone; if this is required, then Live Business Gateway release 3.1 and remote call control should be used.

PC-to-Phone provides Communicator users with access to the full range of features provided by OCS (for example, audio and video conferencing, web collaboration, and simultaneous ringing).

PC-to-Phone is supported with OCS 2007 and 3300 ICP release 8.0 UR3 and above.

Dual Forking with Remote Call Control

Dual forking with remote call control (RCC) is targeted at users who want the combination of using their Communicator client with a Mitel desk phone when based in the office or at their home location (using a Mitel Teleworker Solution phone) and using Communicator as a SIP softphone when travelling or away from their desk phone.

When the user selects “computer mode” for softphone selection, the audio is handled by the computers audio devices (speaker / headset / microphone). When the user selects “phone mode” for integration with the Mitel desk phone, the audio is handled through the 3300 ICP and the Mitel desk phone. When a Communicator user is configured for dual forking with RCC, the Communicator user can toggle between their preferred mode of operation depending on their location.

The reference to dual forking is due to the fact that a call presented to a user's desk phone is "forked" using Mitel Unified Communicator® (UC) Mobile (formerly Mitel Mobile Extension) technology to the user's Communicator softphone, in addition a call presented to a user's Communicator softphone is also "forked" by OCS 2007 so that the call is also presented to the user's Mitel IP phone.

When a call is received, the Communicator softphone and the Mitel desk phone will ring simultaneously. A single incoming call notification (also known as a "toast") will be presented to the user's personal computer (PC) showing the name and / or telephone number of the caller. When the user clicks “answer call”, the user’s preferred calling device will answer the call.
