Features for Quality of Service (QoS), VLANs and network/switch security provide additional flexibility. The VigorSwitch P2260 is a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch. The Unused wire pairs on the RJ45 connector are used to carry power to the remote device so that the connected device does not need its own local power supply (e.g. mains adaptor). This is particularly useful for devices such as IP Webcams or IP Telephones where local power may not be convenient but also where an extra PSU would add unnecessary clutter and increased power consumption.
